A BRIEF PROFILE OF KALAHANDI & THE BIRTH OF ELNISSI MISSION SCHOOL
The etymology meaning of Kalahandi is Kala means ‘art’ and Handi means ‘storehouse’. This district of Kalahandi had a historical legacy with great civilization in ancient history of India. However the demographic profile of the region displays lower density of population and the literacy rate 59.22% in view of 2011 census. The district stroke front page of National Newspaper for starvation death and acute poverty in the 1980s. The malnutrition, poverty and most backwardness in many pockets of Kalahandi added to the woes. The dark period of 1980-2000 was caused by natural calamities and manmade disaster like draught, starvation and transpired in baby selling as well. The Govt. of Odisha with help of Centre created a Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) under the name of KBK yojna and with the assistance of Centre the Govt. tried to bind over the maladies of the region. At this juncture the education was at low ebb and the English Medium CBSE Education was only a distant dream for the people of Dharamgarh Sub-Division. The Philadelphia Ministries & Charitable Trust decided to provide educational face lift to the Sub-Division and we started the El Nissi Mission School in 1993 facing difficultproblems, since the region could not provide educated and subject teachers and many other needs could not be met locally.Against all these odds we brought out the dreams and aspirations of the people of Dharamgarh Sub-Division and today the School is a boon in the field of academics not only for the people of Dharamgarh and nearby villages but also for Deobhog Block Town of Chhatisgarh district from where about 150 students are studying in our School. El Nissi is the only English Medium CBSE School in the radius of about 50 kms. Therefore the School fulfills the long cherished dream of the people and provides best quality education. There are many students who passed out from Elnissicracked NEET and other Medical entrance and IIT-JEE and NIT entrance examinations.

EL NISSI MISSION SCHOOL, established in 1993 is the pedestal for the futuristic youth of Dharamgarh Sub Division and parts of Chattisgarh area. This school, affiliated to CBSE New Delhi Provides high quality education in the whole of Kalahandi district, Odisha, India. Our school represented the state of Odisha at the National Level Science Competition on a few occasions.
The performance of the students has created landmark achievement and academic standard that speak in volumes about their exemplary performance. We are the only school in Kalahandi where most of the classrooms are covered with TATA digital academic programmes. This school is situated in a serene, congenial and healthy environment conducive to good learning. The school is going to further upgrade and strengthen the holistic values of education to the optimum level of performance.
